Use Axapta
balance when you want to return an amount into a cell on your
spreadsheet. The amount is returned via a formula, you build the formula
using the wizard provided. Once created, you can then copy, edit and
move them like any other Excel function. Axapta Balance functions return
an amount back into Microsoft Excel.
It is these
features that will allow you to easily build complex reports from within
Microsoft Excel.
You can build the
Axapta balance function in one of two ways:

Use the Axapta
top 10 function when you want to return an item that is ranked.
Normally, these items are customers, vendors, accounts or inventory
items, although any item on any table or view can be ranked using this
function. Once the item is returned, use other functions to return
values and balances. You can copy, edit and move the function hem like
any other Excel function or formula.
Axapta top 10 can
be used to return, not only the top, but the bottom ranked items too; it
is not limited to a specific number of ranks so you can use it to
deliver the top 5 or the bottom 2 if you wish.

Main Table Reference

This is used
primarily to return a description or other attribute associated with a
code. The code is usually an account code, customer code, vendor code
or a dimension name. Use Main Table Reference if you do not wish to
re-type the description of a code each time it is changed in the
spreadsheet.
As Main Table
Reference is implemented as a function, it is refreshed on demand or
whenever the cell containing the code changes.
